Interesting Facts

Hint in the name - the vines yielding the crop for this specific cuvée were planted in 1880. This is the oldest known kadarka plantation on the planet. The rootstocks are ungrafted Vitis vinifera from the pre-phylloxera era. They managed to survive thanks to the sandy terroir. These old bush vines result in very concentrated juice thanks to the naturally low yield.

Clay instead of wax or foil (2022 vintage only)

Oszkár’s obsession with ancient techniques combined with his rebellious attitude drove him to yet another invention - instead of plastic caps, or artificial waxes, he used clay to seal the top of the bottle. Probably the closest we ever get to the terroir from the comfort of our home.
The opening is as easy as a firm wax - drive the cross crew trough, pull the cork halfway, gently blow/wipe the clay that comes off, pull the cork and enjoy the wine

Vinification

The harvested grapes are de-stemmed and naturally fermented in open-top vats for 2 weeks. After pressing the wine is racked into small Burgundy-sized old oak barrels where it ages on its fine lees for a year. Bottling is done by gravity, without fining or filtration.
